EvapTech Announces Award of VC Summer Units 2 & 3 Cooling Towers
Shaw Constructors, Inc., a subsidiary of The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SHAW) has awarded EvapTech, Inc. a turn-key contract to design and construct the cooling towers to serve the cooling water needs for the planned Units 2 and 3 at the VC Summer Nuclear Station in Jenkinsville, SC.

The VC Summer plant is jointly owned by SCE&G (South Carolina Electric & Gas) and Santee Cooper, a South Carolina state-owned utility. As a member of the AP1000 Consortium, Shaw is providing engineering, procurement and construction services for two 1,117-MWe AP1000™ reactors in Jenkinsville, SC. Commercial operation of Unit 2 is planned to begin in 2016, with Unit 3 planned to begin operation in 2019.

EvapTech's contract requires it to furnish four (4) round menchanical draft counterflow cooling towers. Each tower will be approximately 300 feet in diameter, 70 feet tall, and require sixteen (16), 36 foot diameter fans. The cooling towers will be constructed of precast and prestressed concrete. Each tower will cool approximately 310,000 gallons of water per minute. Each tower will feature many of EvapTech's proprietary components including TechClean™ low fouling film fill heat exchangers, DriAir™ drift eliminators to help meet strict emission requirements, and EvapJet™ II water distribution nozzles.
